The Australian Ceramics Association (TACA) is a national, non-for-profit organisation formed to encourage and foster the development, appreciation and recognition of potters and pottery. I had been approached by TACA to create an app for pottery enthusiasts. They hope to spread the excitement and passion of ceramics throughout Australia so that everyone has the opportunity to recognise, experience and value ceramics in their daily lives. They would like for this app to be a place for pottery lovers to communicate, help develop the community and build up their membership base.
Enter Alumina! Alumina (named after a form of ceramic) is a place for enthusiastic potters to learn through the use of videos, tutorials and articles; exhibit and sell their work; save collections of pottery and also interact with the vibrant community through the forum. Alumina can also be used to locate and book local pottery classes.
I chose to focus on the initial tour and learning function when designing my app, and sought to create a clear and friendly interface aimed at young adults, which is quirky and illustrative. I wanted the identity to be strong and unique, and able to transfer well to roll out assets such as branded aprons and posters advertising Alumina.
(NB: Concept work for a student project).
